Preventing Cellular Use in Restricted Areas

Professionals

Even offices of professionals (doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc) are not exempt.  When a client receives a phone call during a session with the professional, the professional must often wait for the call to be completed - or at least to tolerate an interuption.  With the high value of time for office visits, this can be extremely costly for the professional.

Hourly Workers
The use of cellular phones lowers the productivity of workers.

Usually this is because talking on the phone distracts the worker from assigned tasks and the employer is faced with increased costs and/or reduced revenues.

For example, in a factory or office building, a single worker spending ten minutes a day on the phone for personal purposes costs an employer more than a man-week per year in lost productivity.  With 50 employees, that's one man-year.  With 150 employees, that's three man years of wages lost!!

Workers who bring their own cellular phones to work use them when they want.  When the phone rings, they answer it - even though the employer would never allow them to make personal calls on company time in the past.

Anywhere the workers produce something - they produce less when cellular phones can distract them - and the full burden of this cost is on the employer.

This can be in an office, in an auto repair shop, in a retail environment, or in a factory.

And employees in the retail sector have been known to be extremely rude to customers that interupt their personal calls.  Costing the company much more than just time, it could cost them the customer.
